About Faith in God Charity Missions
Faith in God Charity Missions is a faith-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering widows, orphans, and underserved communities across Cameroon and beyond.

Founded in 2014, our work combines immediate relief with long-term empowerment through four core pillars: health and nutrition, livelihood enrichment, educational assistance, and evangelism. From monthly food distributions to vocational training and educational sponsorships, we equip vulnerable individuals with the tools and support needed to build sustainable futures.

Our mission is to advocate for the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of those we serve—restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and sharing the love of Christ through compassionate action. We envision a world where every person feels valued, empowered, and able to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.

Job Summary:
FIGCM is looking for a volunteer WordPress developer to help maintain and improve our website. You will handle the day-to-day technical work that keeps the site secure, working well, and up to date, in partnership with our Marketing & Communications Team.

Our website is a custom-built WordPress site (Sage/Roots theme with Blade templates and Advanced Custom Fields Pro, hosted on Pantheon). It is not a page-builder site, so this role needs someone who is comfortable working directly in code. Experience that is mainly with Elementor, Divi, plugin setup, or basic WordPress administration is not a match for this role.

Larger or higher-risk work, such as changes to the site's architecture, security settings, or donation tracking, is handled with FIGCM's lead website developer. We are looking for someone who works independently, troubleshoots thoughtfully, and knows when to ask for help.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Fix bugs and troubleshoot routine website issues.
  • Make content and field updates, including adding fields that staff can edit without touching code.
  • Build small improvements within the existing theme and configure plugins.
  • Test every change in the development and test environments before it goes to the live site.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot website forms, donation widgets, email delivery, and tracking.
  • Help keep the site secure, fast, mobile-friendly, and accessible.
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications Team on website updates, and escalate higher-risk work to the lead website developer.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Custom WordPress development: hands-on experience with PHP (8.x preferred), custom themes or plugins, hooks and filters, custom post types, and the REST API.
  • Advanced Custom Fields Pro: developer-level experience with field groups, repeaters, flexible content, and options pages.
  • Sage/Roots and Blade: experience with this framework, or strong Laravel/Blade experience and a willingness to learn Sage quickly.
  • Development tools: Git, Composer, Node.js/npm, and a build tool such as Vite, along with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Deployment: experience with a dev → test → live workflow (Pantheon, Terminus, and WP-CLI preferred).
  • Troubleshooting: ability to work through integration problems using API documentation, browser developer tools, and server logs.
  • Security: secure coding habits, including sanitizing and escaping data, using nonces, and keeping API keys out of code.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with the tools we use: Acorn, Givebutter, Google Tag Manager and GA4, reCAPTCHA, Brevo, and WPForms. These can be learned on the job.
  • Experience with performance, WCAG accessibility, SEO and redirects, DNS and email authentication, or automated testing.
  • Experience supporting nonprofits, churches, or faith-based organizations.

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience is also accepted.
  • Demonstrated custom WordPress development experience. Professional, freelance, volunteer, academic, or personal projects all count.
  • A link to a code repository (such as GitHub) or a code sample is required. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short practical exercise.

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Access and Confidentiality
This role involves access to FIGCM's hosting, code, and connected services. The selected volunteer will be asked to sign a volunteer confidentiality and access agreement. Access will be granted only at the level the work requires.

Volunteer Position Notice
This is an unpaid volunteer position for people who are passionate about using their web development skills to support FIGCM's mission. Volunteers in this role help keep the organization's website and digital tools secure, reliable, and effective in advancing its work of empowering widows, orphans, and underserved communities.
